Sizzling Summer Tablescape

This year, spring didn’t arrive until July 7th, and only lasted that one day, but I made the most of that moment from enjoying my morning coffee on the deck, to grilling a steak that afternoon. Naturally, I had to dine alfresco, and set a glorious table to go along with it.
After a positive comment about my cobalt blue champagne flutes on my Stars & Stripes Tablescape post, I decided that I didn’t use them nearly enough. Why, I asked myself, should these be reserved for strictly champagne? If it’s bubbly, it is going into these glasses, from the fermented from being too-long-in-the-fridge orange juice, to sparking water, to G & T, I am going to start getting use out of these gorgeous glasses.
While I tend to keep my main living space in serene neutrals, the exterior is a fiesta of color. Bright orange, cobalt blue, and lime green prevail in this space, and dance on this tablecloth and napkin set from Tommy Bahama.
Pairing the “Coastal Curiosity” salad plates from Pottery Barn with orange melamine from Williams-Sonoma, and wooden chargers from Pier One meant that I was surrounding myself with a wide variety of styles and textures from my three favorite retailers.
Using these salad plates with such vibrant colors when they have been, generally, paired with neutrals, was a bold move, but I love it! This festive and inviting, no-special-occasion table made me smile.
It was easy to put together, didn’t require much work or a lot of extras, the star here is the beautiful day, the colors in the tablecloth, and the wonderful centerpiece with the orange candle that will be burning later tonight.

Almost a year ago to the day, I created this colorful INDOOR Birds of a Feather Tablescape as a festive way to beat the heat.

  5. I love it when you let your colorful side run amuck!!! This is beautiful!!! And why not use those flutes for everything from soup to nuts? (Well, maybe not nuts...maybe a black walnut or butter pecan shake instead?) I totally believe in pampering yourself until you can't stand it! Go for it, girl!!!

You and I must have been thinking along the same lines this week. I'm going to be posting soon. You'll see what I mean! ;-)
