I still, occasionally, run into a box of my parents' things. Not too long ago I found the box of ornaments that my mother had used on her loft tree. Mother would put up a tree in every room of the house; each tree had a different theme and color. The loft tree was nostalgic and sparkled with gold. I decorated this tree with all of my mother's beautiful, long-collected ornaments, and, in doing so, relived those wonderful days of her legendary Christmas brunch, mounds of packages, rooms filled with candlelight and trees, and best of all, friends and family.
What is your favorite Christmas memory?
So christamsy and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, Pattie...how incredibly sweet! I can just imagine you standing there rummaging through the box, finally having to sit down because the feelings are so overwhelming and you become weak at the knees caught up in your reminiscence. Touching each ornament with love and care, thinking back to when your Mom’s hands touched each one. Remembering the funny back stories of some, the pain of others. Memories. I wish you hours of sweet and blessed memories this holiday season. It can be tough sometimes, but it can also be a great emotional release. Admittedly, I’m still lingering at the “it’s tough” stage. I hope your Christmas will be a peaceful one.
ReplyDeleteThat tree, and all of the warm memories it evokes, is just beautiful. My favorite Christmas memory? Its going to sound sad, but in my memory it isn't. The year that my mother and father divorced, my mother saved money from her paycheck to give us the Christmas she had wanted to all along. We got bikes, beautiful dolls, a very full stocking, and new coats. It wasn't just the gifts I remember - it was my mother working hard to make it magical for us. And she did!
ReplyDeleteNice post Pattie, and I enjoyed reading the comments of others and their Christmas memories. What a warm and beautiful tree to match your memories of growing up in a wonderful atmosphere of Christmas. My daughter is starting a tradition of a tree in every room. I love the idea. My Mom and I would love to have come to one of your Mother's brunches.
ReplyDeleteEvery Christmas I think of the 1960s when Mom and I would head to "Beans" Jesse's grocery store to pick out a tree. It was always the week prior to Christmas when we put up a tree, and one year we waited until Christmas Eve. You can't imagine how scrawny these trees were by today's standards, but we thought they were beautiful. Mom and I decorated while Daddy sat benignly watching, and we always bought a box of tinsel to throw on! My favorite blue bell from those early trees now has a place of honor on my daughter's tree.
Wonderful!!!Hugs and blessings!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pattie, the tree and the memories!!

Patti,
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas memories sound magical and the tree is exquisite. My favorite memory is going to a neighbor's house and stringing popcorn and cranberries and decorating her tree. Being Jewish, we didn't celebrate Christmas but always loved driving around to enjoy all the Christmas decorations and lights!
Your Mom had great taste. Your tree is so beautiful with all those wonderful ornaments.
