Mr. O-P

As you all know, Mr. O-P entered Hospice Care a while ago. I now have the sad task of telling you that on Saturday evening, June 25th, he passed away. I take solace in knowing that he was unaware that he wasn’t going to survive, and in the fact that I was able to care for him here at home until he took his last breath.

We have a long history together, beginning when I was his student in college, and then his researcher, and eventually his wife. Marrying someone twenty years my senior was a bold move, but one I will never regret because we had a marvelous time together, working in some of the most beautiful libraries around the world, and living in some truly amazing cities.

This is my favorite picture of him. It was taken when we were working at Yale and living in North Haven, CT in a house on 12 acres of land with four deer, dozens of turkeys, a resident skunk, and Gothic tower, erected by an artist proficient in metal sculpture. I miss him already.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss, Patti. My sweetie is 18 years my senior and I know that in the future there is a good possibility that I will be caring for him to some extent. I am glad to know you have no regrets, and that you had a good life together. Truly, I am so sorry.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss. What wonderful memories, and some day you will be able to look back without sorrow and just smile. But for now, I know how much pain is in your heart as we have traveled the same road.
Wishing you peace and solace....

Thinking of you Big Time. And for some reason you have really been on my mind since Saturday. Now I know why.
He is still with you only now with no pain or sickness. He will send you a sign that everything will be ok

I am so very sorry for your loss of this special man. The two of you had a wonderful life together. I hope that your sorrow is tempered by your memories of those years. Please take care of yourself and give yourself plenty of time to grieve -- we will all be here for you when you are ready to return. (I too am married to a professor many years my senior, and have never had any regrets.)

My thoughts and prayers to you at this most difficult time, Pattie. Jim sounds like he was such a wonderful man. My heart aches for you.

There's one more star up in the sky tonight.
Even though it is far away,
its brightness and warmth
still reach us here
to make the night a little less dark.

Oh Pattie I'm so sorry. I have not been active on any blogs lately and hadn't seen your last few posts. We often don't really know what is going on with our blog friends, and your courageous spirit is very much admired by me and your many blog readers. I can't imagine how much you miss him. Keep up your strength and here's hoping you will get back to feeding yourself good food again. I am praying for you.
