Ye Olde McCormick Tea House...This Week's Find

I don’t know about you, but certain things will strike a chord with me, and this teapot is one of them.  In the shape of “Ye Olde McCormick Tea House” (after the original landmark in Baltimore, MD, circa 1969-1976, where hostesses, in Elizabethan gowns, served tea both hot and cold), my mother acquired this decades ago, and I loved it. My hope was that she would give it to me, but she liked it too, so she kept it. Now it is mine, alas, and I enjoy it every day, as it has become a part of my decor on the kitchen island.
Armed with my favorite teabag assortment, this is going to be my “go to” teapot for the winter. It just speaks to me, shaped like a tea house, with all of those people inside, it makes me feel all warm and cozy.
In the winter, drinking hot tea is always a pleasure, but it will be even more so with this teapot, now to decide what color cups to use with it.
Is there an item that strikes a chord with you? Tell me about it.

I have something from the 1960's that I enjoy that was my mother's too. It was a Bartons colorful Tin Box with interesting scenes of what they called, "savy New Yorkers. It held candy that was called Almond Kisses made from chocolate caramel with an almond inside. Bartons only made it once a year and we waited for it to come out. Enjoy your special teapost!!

Oh that is a warm and cozy teapot! I love it.
Now you have me thinking about things I have of my Mom's. But one thing stands out this morning, and that is a plain white metal teapot Mom bought me in the early 1990s. I was visiting her in California, and we always went "to the Mall" when I was there (mainly so she could buy me something and we could share a cinnamon roll at Cinnabon!) This time she sneaked around behind my back and bought the teapot because she had seen me admiring it. It came as a set with white ceramic coffee cups that are long gone. But that teapot sits on a shelf in my kitchen as a warm, happy reminder of that day.

Judee, I love tins too! What fun it must have been each year awaiting a new one.

Linda, isn’t it funny how a teapot, even a simple one, can be so special? All of these things just say “home” to me.

Thanks for sharing with me.

I love that you cherish your mothers things. I do as well, something about seeing them daily and using them helps us keep their memories alive in our hearts.

I rarely drink anything hot, but this is an adorable tea pot and would make me want to brew a pot of tea!!

Oh Pattie, I have teapot envy! I do have a cottage teapot that was my mom’s, but it’s missing a lid. I use it for flowers. I did buy a cottage teapot on eBay that is similar and I love it. I used it this morning, as a matter of fact.

wow, so cool. I'm thinking possibly did you get your love of tablescapes and cooking etc...from your mom. It would seem so.
