Haunted House Tablescape for Halloween

There’s something magical about setting a beautiful seasonal table. Year after year, I refresh my collection by waiting for those glorious post-holiday 50% off sales. Yes, it means holding onto new treasures for a full year before they shine, but the wait is always worth it.
This year’s Halloween centerpiece is pure joy: a Pottery Barn cookie-jar haunted house I snapped up last season, complete with its matching salt-and-pepper shakers. I adore anything haunted and anything house-related, so this set felt inevitable.
To give the little manor a proper backdrop, I added a pair of glowing light-up trees, and the whole scene instantly came to life.

For the foundation, I chose a rich chocolate-brown tablecloth layered with a gauzy cheesecloth runner in a lovely champagne color. A touch of green felt essential, so I slipped Monstera-leaf placemats underneath (because “monster,” of course — it is Halloween).
Over those went thick, woven black placemats for depth and drama.
The place settings continue the story. Weathered-green melamine dinner plates from Williams-Sonoma provide a sturdy, earthy base. Stacked on top are Williams-Sonoma’s Vintage Halloween salad plates, each featuring a cheerful jack-o’-lantern and the classic “Happy Halloween” greeting.
A pumpkin-hued cup and saucer stand ready for cappuccino — the sweet wooden spoon with leaf is just perfect for stirring in the right about of sugar — while an orange coupe glass awaits champagne. Water is served in a vintage Fostoria Woodland Brown goblet I inherited from my mother—an heirloom that adds quiet history to the table.

New this year is the gold hammered silverware. Its soft shimmer catches the light and echoes the gold accents on the salad plates. Bold orange napkins deliver the final pop of color, tying everything together with festive energy.

The result is a table that feels slightly spooky, warmly inviting, and thoroughly ready for Halloween celebrations.

A Hauntingly Charming Halloween Tablescape for Two

As the sultry grip of a vengeful summer clings to my little corner of the world, with temperatures soaring into the low 90s well into October, I find myself yearning for the crisp, eerie embrace of a true autumn. Here in my neck of the woods, we’ve been teased by a fleeting “False Fall” back in mid-August—a blissful spell of low humidity (anything below 50% is a rare treat) and temperatures dancing in the upper 70s. But now, the heat has returned with a wicked vengeance, melting my candles into ghostly puddles. Yet, nothing can dampen my Halloween spirit!
Welcome to a delightfully spooky tablescape, crafted for a bewitching dinner for two, as part of Rita at Panoply’s Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop.

Picture this: a luxurious black velvet tablecloth drapes across the table like a midnight shadow, overlaid with a gauzy runner that whispers of forgotten ghosts. At the center, a haunted house glows ominously, a cherished gift from my son, once purchased at the long-lost Illuminations candle shop.
Instead of traditional tea lights, I’ve summoned battery-operated black votives, flickering to life with the press of a remote—a modern spell that casts an eerie, weightless glow.

In the background, twisted trees from Pottery Barn pulse with spectral light, their branches clawing at the air. Flanking the haunted house are candelabras from Michael’s, their black candles dripping with gothic charm. The wine glasses, adorned with skeletal motifs from Pottery Barn’s wickedly wonderful barware collection, add a touch of macabre elegance. I splurge on two pieces each year, as their price is as haunting as their design. The witch mugs, relics from Pier 1’s bygone days, cackle with nostalgia, while vibrant green chargers, inherited from my mother and crafted in Italy, ground the setting. These are layered with Pier 1’s brown, navy-edged plates from their Spice Collection, crowned with vintage Halloween-image salad plates from Williams Sonoma.
A pop of vibrant orange—napkins and flatware from Amazon—adds a playful, pumpkin-hued charm to this spectral scene. Click their names to conjure your own from the digital ether.
As the days grow darker, I hope the spirits are kind where you dwell, and that you’re weaving your own Halloween magic. May your home become a haunted haven, as mine has, filled with spooky delights and chilling charm. Happy October, my fellow ghouls!

Make Way for Halloween Tablescape

I received two things for my birthday that warranted my doing a rather spooky table for Halloween; one was an adorable frog pitcher that I got from my aunt, the second was the absolutely glorious bouquet of flowers that I got from an admirer.
In my search for a suitably spooky vase to use for the flowers (instead of the glass vase in which they came) I found this Skeleton cookie jar that I believe I got from Pier One six or seven years ago. It worked perfectly!

A velvety black tablecloth seemed appropriate here, and because I wanted to use a witch image, I thought pops of green called for employing the use of both green placemats and green napkins that were simply knotted and set to the side of the plate.

I used tin chargers that I got from a local shop, square black plates, and topped the black plates with a witch image that I found online, enlarged, cut out, thought suitably spooky, and set beneath small Duralex dinner plates.  I love those plates; you can make a table any theme by simply placing a printed design beneath the glass.

Mikasa ‘Opulent’ hammered flatware, gave it a bit of sparkle, as well as the wonderful vintage wine glasses with the raven stem.

I added a bit of whimsy by placing a sugar skull into the soup spoon. You can easily make these yourself using this mold.
Green water glasses were just the ticket here as well as deep green taper candles in wrought iron candleholders. I think I’m ready for Halloween.

When Witches Go Riding Tablescape

Does this table surprise you? Well, it surprises me! I had no intention whatsoever of doing a Halloween table this year. This came about when my aunt and my cousin came over to join me for lunch to celebrate my birthday earlier in the month. My cousin brought the napkins made out of Halloween fabric, as well as the spider tea light candleholders. She said now that her children are grown (they’re both in high school) she no longer sets tables to celebrate Halloween, and wanted to know if I would like these items. Would I? Yes, I would! The next day I took down my neutral fall table (that I really enjoyed during the month of September), and set about creating this one.

I started by topping the table with fabric by J. Wecker Frisch; it is not a Halloween fabric, per se, but one that lends itself quite well to the holiday.I topped it with black placemats, and Italian green chargers (that I brought forward from last week’s table). On top of the chargers, I placed bright yellow Waechtersbach ceramic dinner plates. To complete my plate stack, I added vintage Halloween plates, that I got a number of years ago from Williams-Sonoma.
I was trying to decide what flatware to use, and at one point was considering gold to pick up the gold elements in the plates (that may not be visible to you, but are very much so in person), but ultimately decided to go with that pop of orange, and I’m happy with my choice. You can find the orange flatware here.
Witch broom handled mugs, ample enough to hold soup, a latte, or a big cup of cocoa topped with whipped cream, got a number of years ago from Pier One. The owl stemware is new this year and I found it here.

I paired my cousin’s luncheon size napkins with solid green dinner size napkins to pick up the green elements in the fabric and give the table some added interest.
The skeleton hand napkin ring holding the napkins can be found here. The spider votive candleholders hold green tea lights.

The skeleton candlesticks I got it Michael’s a couple of years ago, the candles are from Colonial Candle of Cape Cod.

In the center I have a vintage look pumpkin from World Market filled with fresh flowers and fern fronds.

Beverages (Serpent’s Venom and Cauldron Cola) are from The Potion’s Cauldron. They have a variety of fun flavors, and bottles to match.

Considering that I wasn’t planning a Halloween table at all, I’m very pleased with the way that this one turned out.

BOO! And Happy Friday the 13th!
