Tom Turkey Table for Two

It seems as though my Thanksgiving celebration gets smaller and smaller every year. It has gone from a table of 14 down to this year‘s table for two. But no matter how many people I serve, I want that table to be special, and the food to be good.
This table for two out in the conservatory is where I enjoy most of my meals. It’s cozy, light and bright, and I am surrounded by all of my plants. It makes me happy just being in this room.

The table covering is a simple chocolate brown table round. I chose tin chargers to complement the rustic, wicker turkeys flanking either side of the place setting that have tin heads and tail feathers.

The fall garland and iron candle holders are from a local gift shop. I interwove illuminated maple leaves among them that you can find
here.
The dinnerware is by Johnson Brothers, in the “His Majesty” pattern, something I have been collecting for years.

I like to start my meal with potato leek soup, it has become a bit of a tradition over the years, and I enjoy serving it in this turkey tureen. The lid keeps the soup warm throughout the meal.

The colorful turkey coffee mug is a sentimental favorite of mine. This came from Ladue Florist, a lovely local florist and gift shop that my mother and I used to frequent. She bought me 12 of these about 20 years ago and I have loved them ever since.
The water glasses are by Mikasa in their “Park Lane” pattern.
The coupe glass is new this year. These come beautifully boxed in a set of four, and I find that I use them not only for champagne and wine, but martinis as well.

The plaid napkins I’ve had for years, they came from Pottery Barn. The flatware is Mikasa ‘Opulent hammered flatware,

No matter how you intend to celebrate your Thanksgiving, whether you are hosting a crowd, or dining on your own, make it special.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Simple, Serene Summer Tablescape

How does the song go? “Summertiiiiime, and the living is easy.” That’s going to be my plan for the entire summer of 2024. Easy living, peace, serenity. No complicated food or plans, just relaxing and enjoying. That’s what I had in mind when I created this table — simple and serene.
Even though this is a low maintenance and serene table, that does not mean that it isn’t attractive. I started with the tablecloth that I found in a closet recently and had completely forgot buying. I loved not just the pattern, but the quiet colors. That’s not to say that I don’t like bold colors, but there’s something about entering the summer season, that I like to do quietly.
Rustic chargers are on top of Woven Placemats giving it a simple farmhouse look.

The dinnerware is one of my absolute favorites. It is by Portmeirion, and a part of their 'Garden Roses' collection. The salad plate on top has the same pattern as the plate below.
The cup and saucer are also from Portmeirion, from the 'Garden Harmony' collection and complement the plates quite well. The hammered flatware by Mikasa in the 'Opulent' pattern reflects light in various angles as it bounces off each facet. The napkins, from Amazon, in deep green, pair nicely.
The glazed pitcher in the center, I found here, is filled with a spray of simple grasses.

It is flanked on either side by etched crystal, antique candlesticks that the Late Mr. O-P bought me for our first Christmas together. I had thought about using white candles here, but I gave the green a try and I really liked it. I think the green candles keep the table from being washed out.
The glassware is from La Rocher. These glasses work equally well for water as they do wine, shrimp cocktail, or a dessert mousse. I find them very versatile.I hope that you plan to relax and make the living easy for your family this summer. Enjoy each day.

"Morning Mist" Tablescape

Don’t ask me why I decided to name this tablescape “Morning Mist,” because I honestly don’t know. Those are two words that happened to pop into my head while I was setting it, and I decided to go with it.

When I have one person for lunch, we always dine in the conservatory. It’s my favorite room in the house, and it soon becomes the favorite of any and all who visit. Those who dine with me do have to agree to sit down with a plant or two, sometimes hovering over their plate, when they come dining. While I have tried to reign myself in over the past couple of years, I recently couldn’t stop myself from buying a small vanilla plant (in the white pot on the pedestal to the left) in the hopes that I live long enough to see it flower and (dare I dream?), bear.  I do have blossoms on my coffee plant, so who knows what’s going to happen?

I also found this little face vase, irresistible, and had to have it as a vessel to hold terrarium plants that I decided to take out of the terrarium because I was finding it a bit overgrown. Doesn’t she have the sweetest face?

I decided to do something slightly girly, thanks to the vase, and went with the color scheme of pink and green. The chargers, as you all know, undoubtedly by now, are Bordallo Pinheiro geranium leaf chargers. Topping them are new Kate Spade dinner plates from the "Make It Pop" Collection. I love the green surround, deeper green border, and pink ring in the middle. On top of them are Bordallo Pinheiro Majolica Green Geranium Leaf salad plates.

Continuing the plate stack are these wonderful Longchamps wine label appetizer plate, topped with lightly floral soup bowls from Hartstone Pottery, part of a snack, set, that I inherited from my mother.

The floral napkins are from Pottery Barn. The pink stemware is from Amazon; the green water glasses are by Villeroy and Boch.

The hammered flatware is Mikasa "Opulent" (a new favorite) also found on Amazon, as is this super cute little cream pitcher (that comes as a set of two for a fantastically low price). Isn't is darling?

The silver salt and pepper shakers belonged to the late Mr. O-P’s maternal grandmother (!!).  I discovered these when I was digging around in a box of things in the belly of the beast. Honestly, I just never know what I’m going to find. I fell in love with them on sight, and they have been a fixture on the Conservatory table ever since. If you look closely, you can see the initial "K" because his grandparents' last night was Keogh.

If you’re ever in the area, stop by and join me. A table is always waiting.
