Blossoming into Easter: My Floral Tablescape Makeover

 

Last week, I shared a serene, sage-toned tablescape and mentioned how “with only a few quick swaps, it can easily shift into bolder, brighter hues as summer draws near.” Well, summer may still feel far off, but with Easter just around the corner, I couldn’t resist giving that table a joyful, colorful refresh!

If you click through, you’ll see the transformation: the beautiful Bordallo Pinheiro geranium leaf bowls have been moved to the side, perfect now for serving a fresh spring salad. I cleared away the herb appetizer plates to let the stunning floral designs on the Portmeirion “Botanic Garden” dinner plates take center stage—they truly shine! 

I traded the sage napkins for vibrant floral ones from Pottery Barn that add instant cheer. Out went some of the glassware; in came my beloved salmon-colored water and wine glasses—purchased back in the 70s right out of college because I fell head over heels for them, and I love them just as much now. 

The large Portmeirion butterfly cups and saucers stepped aside to make room for Bordallo Pinheiro geranium leaf espresso cups—ideal for after-dinner coffee and a lovely echo of the cabbage leaf salad bowls.

  

Finally, I refreshed the centerpiece by blending last week’s cherry blossoms with a mix of soft pink and cranberry carnations plus alstroemeria. Voilà—a completely new, festive table is born! 

The best part? It really is that simple to transition from one season (or holiday) to the next with just a handful of thoughtful changes. Who else loves playing mix-and-match with their favorite pieces?

Sage Green & Cherry Blossoms: My Fresh Spring Table Setting

 

Spring has officially arrived at my table! Soft, subtle, and irresistibly pretty, this first tablescape of the season feels just like the gentle awakening of warmer days. With only a few quick swaps, it can easily shift into bolder, brighter hues as summer draws near.

 

A neutral linen tablecloth with a delicate cream design creates a calm foundation, topped by a super affordable sage-green cheesecloth runner that drapes freely and organically from end to end—like a gentle breeze across the table.

 

The centerpiece steals the show: a majestic swan planter brimming with faux cherry blossoms, adding elegance and a touch of whimsy. As evening settles in, cordless table lamps bathe everything in a warm, inviting glow.

Each place setting begins with an off-white charger featuring pretty scalloped edges. Layered on top are my cherished Portmeirion “Botanic Garden” dinner and salad plates. Perched above the salad plate sits a vintage off-white appetizer plate illustrated with herbs and their names—a treasured souvenir from the Missouri Botanical Garden gift shop in the 1980s!

Bordallo Pinheiro’s charming green cabbage leaf salad bowls complete the look and are perfect for serving velvety spring soup. The matching Portmeirion Botanic Garden Butterfly cups and saucers flutter in beautifully, promising butterflies and blooms ahead.

 

For flatware, I pulled out my all-time favorite Kelenfer set with its delightful musical-note tail design—it never fails to make me smile. Sage-green Ruvanti napkins echo the runner and add just the right hint of color.

 

And oh, the glassware! I had the most fun here, mixing three different patterns, colors, and sizes to evoke the joyful feeling of spring growth rising from the earth. As a proud “green girl,” I couldn’t resist these gorgeous green ribbed stemless wine glasses—the texture is divine and pairs effortlessly with elegant crystal champagne flutes and sunny golden-yellow stemware. The combination feels fresh, alive, and perfectly spring-like.

 

This tablescape is soft elegance at its best—pretty today, ready to bloom brighter tomorrow. I hope it inspires your own spring table!

Champagne Brunch Alfresco Tablescape

 

Last week’s cool mornings were perfect for an outdoor breakfast, and I drew inspiration from my vibrant Williams-Sonoma lemon plates to create a stunning tablescape. The result was a bold, colorful setup that brought joy to the meal.

I started with a whimsical lemon-patterned tablecloth from SporGenix, available on Amazon, which set a cheerful tone. On top, I layered Bordallo Pinheiro geranium leaf chargers for a touch of elegance. Simple indigo blue stoneware dinner plates from Larder & Vine provided a grounding contrast, with the star of the show—the Williams-Sonoma lemon plates—adding a pop of citrusy charm. 

For cereal, granola, or oatmeal, I used handled bowls I’ve cherished for years.

 

The glassware was a mix of sentimental and striking: yellow chalices inherited from my mother, cobalt blue champagne flutes, bubble glass lemon juice glasses, and petite Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage leaf espresso cups for a cohesive look.I chose Urban Villa green napkins (available here) to complement the palette, paired with the ornate Keawell Versailles flatware, a new favorite (find it here). 

 

Each place setting was adorned with a double sprig of fresh lemon balm from my deck garden, tucked into small spice jars repurposed as charming mini vases. Lemon salt and pepper shakers added an equally whimsical touch.

  

At the table’s center, a bold Pottery Barn hurricane served as a striking focal point. To elevate the festive vibe, I paired our champagne with a playful touch: my trusty oscillating bubble machine! Though the bubbles were fleeting due to the constant breeze in my area, they added a whimsical moment to the morning. At one point, however, it ran a bit amok.

This vibrant, citrus-inspired setup made our outdoor breakfast unforgettable, blending bold colors, personal treasures, and a dash of fun.

Mother’s Day Table Tribute: A Celebration of Special Women

 

This Mother’s Day, I’ve created a heartfelt table setting to honor the remarkable mothers who’ve touched my life.

At the heart of the display is a cherished 19th-century silver teapot from my late husband’s mother, repurposed as a vase. Its tarnished charm, which I’ve lovingly polished over the years, inspired the table’s color palette. I chose vibrant flowers to dictate the pink and green theme that runs throughout. 

 

The table features scalloped pink placemats from Solino Home (of the ruffled lavender napkins that I used here). I’m a huge fan of their linens and have quite the collection. 

The silver salt and pepper shakers, engraved with a “K” for my husband’s grandmother, Keogh, add a sentimental touch. Despite their age, they polish up beautifully, though not perfectly, which only adds to their character. 

The plate stack starts with weathered white scalloped chargers from Pier One, topped with violet plates from Tabletops Gallery. Next come Bordallo Pinheiro Majolica Green Geranium Leaf salad plates, and finally, Hartstone soup bowls from my mother’s decades-old luncheon set, proudly made in the USA.I used them previously here and here. Green check napkins from Pottery Barn tie the look together.

 

Crystal water glasses, a generous gift from my friend Kathy, are Mikasa’s “Parklane” pattern. Kathy, a devoted dog mom to Bentley, also passed along the International “Contessa” silverware, which graces this table.

 

To keep the pink theme, I’ve chosen pink coupe glasses for serving pink champagne.

For a touch of sparkle, I selected Victorian-style glass teacups and saucers.

 Antique crystal candlestick holders, a gift for our first married Christmas, add elegance, while new pink and green sherbet glasses promise to be summer staples.

Holiday Table for Two

Despite the fact that many people start decorating for Christmas after Halloween, for me, the Christmas season doesn’t officially begin until the day after Thanksgiving. As such, I have spent the past number of days going up and down the steps carting up my holiday decorations. During this month I hope to have a number of different tables to share with you, beginning with this one.

 

What I hope to convey with this table is that you do not have to have Christmas dishes, or any type of Christmas decorations in order to create a festive, seasonal table. Upon close inspection, there is nothing Christmassy on this table at all, with the exception of the Christmas colors of red and green, colors that I chose because they are the color of apples as reflected in the Franciscan “Apple” dinnerware pieces that I have used here.

A hunter green tablecloth provides the base. I manufactured a red runner out of some fabric that I had stored in the closet. I simply folded it to the size that I wanted and ran it down the center of the table.

The charger plates are Italian ceramic; I inherited these from my mother. I topped them with a bright red dinner plate from Pier One. A Bordallo Pinheiro geranium salad plate was placed on top of this, with the final piece being a bread and butter plate in the Franciscan “Apple” pattern.

The cups and saucers are also Franciscan apple. The red stemmed water glasses are by Villeroy and Boch; the wine glasses are from Rogaska in the “Gallia” pattern. 

The Milano red flatware by Ginkgo International in the Le Pris pattern seemed the perfect choice. The Apple napkin rings that I used here I have had for decades, and have no idea where I got them originally. I decided to go bold with lime green napkins, and I really like the look. 

This is a lovely table that would be perfect for a holiday lunch, while employing no specialty pieces whatsoever. Start shopping at your house for items that you can use for the holidays. 

The pitcher is Fiestaware, the centerpiece is nothing more than a simple candle ring, hurricane, and pillar candle. I scattered apples of various sizes at the base of the hurricane to pull everything together.
